Data Compression

Hi, this is Bndsbon. In this blog post, I am going to introduce to you a new term, called data compression. Data compression reduces the amount of space needed to store a certain data or information. Nevertheless, data compression is measured by the size of the compressed data divided by the size of the original data.

There are two way to compress a data, one is lossy and the other is lossless.

The main difference between lossy and lossless is that using lossy, some data might be lost during the compression phrase, while lossless do not.

Here are some applications of lossy and lossless.

lossy: images, videos, and audios

lossless: spreadsheets, emails, and source codes

So far, you might ask, why do we need compression for?

Actually, with the help of compress, the speed to transfer a certain amount of data can be increased, and there will be better protection for the data.

I knew what data compression is before today’s lesson. However, I never knew that with a certain type of compression techique, some data might be lost during the compression. This is really new to me. And I have got numerous questions on this, such as If the some information are lost during the compression, would it still affect the compression data? My fellow readers, if you wanted to know the answer to this question, please search online for more information or watch is video: youtu.be/LrNIKImCOwI .

See you next time!
